Naturopath in
Portland, Oregon
Bethany Porten, ND
She/her
Dr. Bethany Porten is a naturopathic physician who offers both medication management and naturopathic approaches—including nutrition, supplements, herbal medicine, and lifestyle support.
She was drawn to this field because integrative care creates more options; It allows treatment to feel collaborative and patient-led rather than prescriptive. She believes people deserve to understand their bodies and participate meaningfully in decisions about their care.
Her clinical focus is mental health across the lifespan, with a special love for working with teens and young adults navigating new challenges for the first time. There is something deeply meaningful to her about supporting someone as they build insight, resilience, and self-trust early on.
At the same time, she genuinely enjoys working with adults of all ages and often connects especially well with older adults, valuing the depth, perspective, and humor that each life stage brings.
Her work includes medication management, naturopathic psychiatric care, trauma-informed women’s health, pelvic floor therapy, gender-affirming care, medical management of eating disorders, and primary care.
She practices from a Health at Every Size (HAES) perspective and strives to create a space that is weight-inclusive, affirming, and free from shame.
Counseling is woven into every visit. Dr. Porten does not believe medical care needs to feel cold or intimidating to be effective. Her style is approachable and grounded, and she values honesty, humor, and real conversations. She aims to create an environment where patients feel safe showing up exactly as they are.
She is continually inspired by the nervous system’s capacity to heal when it feels supported and understood. Whether working with medication, botanicals, ketamine, pelvic health, or foundational lifestyle changes, her goal is always the same: to help patients feel more connected to their bodies and more empowered in their lives.
Outside of work, she enjoys yoga, anime, and listening to true-crime podcasts.
She is also an enthusiastic (and self-aware) Facebook Marketplace vintage treasure hunter who is perpetually convincing herself she has room for just one more mid-century lamp.
A devoted boba tea enthusiast, she spends much of her free time with her miniature dachshund, Bug, and her cat, Tuna.
